Description:

Diamond sharp detail is the result of both a spectacular strike and also a new obverse hub placed into service for proofs in 1916. At first blush, the ultra-fine matte texture seems wholly undisturbed by any post mint impairments whatsoever, though persistent examination will discover a series of faint diagonal hairlines above the date. Royal blue color competes with dominant magenta-red color for space on both sides. Registry set collectors should note that no example has ever been honored with a finer grade by either major service.
