(About The Images)
1822 (O-109, R.2) PCGS MS-63. 1822 (O-109, R.2) PCGS MS-63.
Lot Title: 1822 (O-109, R.2) PCGS MS-63.
Description: Your cataloger decries the notion that a grading service would ever undergrade a coin these days, especially in this era of advanced gradeflation and occasionally erratic standards, but the MS-63 grade given this stunning 1822 half-dollar seems a little conservative. Shimmering mint luster energizes the obverse with satin cartwheel luster, though it is admittedly a little subdued on the reverse due to more generous patina on that side. Post mint impairments are not obvious for this coin, but an astute bust half nut will unavoidably discover a handful of planchet defects confined to the reverse, the most prominent being above the eagle's head.

655The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$500.00
1822 (O-104), 1823 (O-106a), and 1823 (O-107), all XF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. These should prove to be excellent candidates for XF-40, with die-marriages falling within two dates that are popular with collectors. They may be tabulated as:...
656The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,000.00
1822 (O-113), 1823 (O-111), and 1824 (O-108a).
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Pronounced luster places each member of this trio into an upper circulated grade range, but caveats must be observed. The lucky high bidder will likely be...
741The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$525.00
1822 (O-109, R.2) AU.
CONSIGNOR: This is one of my early crackouts, NGC holder, I think it was AU-58, or maybe 55. I didn't bother keeping the holders or inserts back then. The details are kind of hard to see with the...
742The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$400.00
1822 (O-107, R.2) AU.
Aluminum-white luster gleams of the obverse and shimmers off the reverse, yielding an appearance very much like that of an uncirculated coin. Though likely dipped at one time to achieve the current...
488The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$825.00
1822 (O-106a, R.4) and 1825 (O-105 R.2) Capped Bust half-dollars, AU.
Closely matched for appearance, both of the bust half-dollars in this lot are nicely struck and lightly patinated. The 1822 has the better luster, and lacks only a little striking definition, while...
563The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,450.00
1822 O-109 W. J. Skiles NGC MS-62.
Ex-W. J. Skiles (Heritage, 1/4/2007). Dark earth tones permeate either side of this adequately lustrous bust half, with subtle color separation on the obverse that includes indigo at the edge,...
1413The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$825.00
1822 O-109, R-2. NGC MS-61.
Exceptional eye appeal permeates from the glistening, lustrous surfaces. Deep highlights of rose are complemented by a blue blush. Some scattered hairlines beneath the toning are detectable with a...
