(About The Images)
1917-D Obverse. MS-62. 1917-D Obverse. MS-62.
Lot Title: 1917-D Obverse. MS-62.
Description: Included with this 1917-D (obverse) Walking Liberty half-dollar is the PCGS insert which displays a grade of MS-63. The consignor removed the coin from the slab in order to use it in an album type set, but retained the insert for future reference. Extensive original patina enshrouds the coin with platinum-grey color, but does not inhibit the cartwheel effect of the mint luster. Handling marks typical of the grade can be seen across much of the torso, and minor carbon spotting should be noted as well.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

735The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$975.00
1917-D Obverse NGC MS-63.
Neils Franks Consignment. Silver-beige expanses yield to amber gold embracing the rims, creating a suitable backdrop for decently struck motifs. The classic matte texture often seen for the date...
671The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$2,000.00
1917-D Obverse. NGC MS-64.
Strictly original and immensely pleasing as a result, with bronze patina that only modestly subdues the swirling obverse luster. Some subtle ocean-blue and indigo tones swirl toward the obverse left...
606The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,600.00
1917-D Obverse. PCGS MS-64+ CAC.
Unexpectedly well detailed on the obverse, Liberty's forefinger displays slight separation from the rest of her hand, with the eagle on the reverse also sharp everywhere except at the usual trouble...
524The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$700.00
1917-D Obverse. NGC MS-62.
Preservation of the surfaces is distinctly better than expected, since there are hardly any consequential marks to be seen on either side. In fact, Liberty's torso is cleaner than usual, barely...
616The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,200.00
Two 1917-D and two 1917-S, one each obverse and reverse mintmark.
All of the mintmarked halves for 1917 are covered by this group, but each is suspiciously bright despite obvious wear from circulation. Thus, details only grades for these cleaned coins are...
617The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$2,300.00
1917-D Obverse. PCGS MS-64.
1917-D "obverse" is unquestionably a key to the series, expensive in very high grades, but nearly palatable at the MS-64 level. Expect to pay four times as much for a single point upgrade! ...
690The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,500.00
1917-D Obverse. PCGS MS-64.
A lengthy, diagonal staccato of tiny dimples traverses the obverse above IN GOD, and undoubtedly precludes higher grade consideration. However, the eye appeal benefits from a good strike and...
591The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$950.00
1917-D, 1918-D and 1929-D Walking Liberty half-dollars
The half-dollars in this lot are very well matched as to appearance, but the visual consistency is achieved at least in small part by the fact that they have all been similarly dipped. Each coin is a...
592The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$885.00
1917-D (obv) Walking Liberty half-dollar, PCGS MS-63
Greyish lilac tones washes across virtually this entire coin, but attenuates the underlying silver mint luster only slightly. Considering the issue, this is a nicely struck coin except for the...
642The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,500.00
1917-D Obverse. ANACS MS-63.
The eye appeal of this first variety issue is quite phenomenal. There are a few minuscule ticks scattered here and there. Two trivial scrapes are present, one on the sun, another across from the...
614The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$625.00
1917-D Obverse. NGC AU-58.
This specimen's glistening silver surfaces are graced with a delicate iridescent quality. Despite not being ascribed as Mint State, it is amply lustrous. While Liberty's skirt lines are typically...
1140The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$300.00
1917-D Obverse. AU-53.
A delicate iridescence blankets this specimen's original silvery surfaces. An ample amount of luster is retained, and some scant hairlines are also observed. Typically, the skirt lines and principal...
616The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$300.00
1917-D Obverse AU-55.
This Half Dollar is 100% original. It is gunmetal-gray in color, and has attractive russet tones on the peripheries.
618The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$425.00
1917-D Obverse. AU-58.
This key date to this series also has a mintage below one million, at 765,400. This handsome, borderline Unc., branch mint Half Dollar has glowing surfaces with a hint of rose iridescence. A couple...
