Lot Title:
1855-O XF, reverse scratch.
Description:
Surprising definition defies the fact that the 1855-O half-eagle tends to come poorly struck. A glimpse of mint luster can be enjoyed with careful examination, but this will also reveal a thin scratch that somewhat parallels the top of the eagle's right (observed) wing. This is a scarce issue with a small original mintage of just 11, 100 pieces.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Substantial majority of the fine details still remain, indicating a limited amount of time in circulation. Sharpness is therefore XF-40 if not better, especially considering the typical New Orleans... |
