Lot Title:
1807 (LM-1) Good.
Description:
Ample central details on the portrait and on the eagle's wings and shield are suggestive of a grade of at least "fine", but the 1807 dime is notorious for poor peripheral detail at the time of striking because a single pair of dies was used to manufacture 165, 000 coins - a rather remarkable feat for such early mint technology. Thus, a grade of VG-10 is appropriate, though collectors of early type will recognize the outstanding, original quality of this example.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
