Lot Title:
1849 Large Date (C-1, R-2) and 1851 (C-1, R-1) Coronet half-cents, PCGS.
Description:
In this era of malleable grading standards, most collectors believe there is a very fuzzy area of grading between AU-58 and MS-62, and the 1849 C-1 is an example of a coin that might be given a low MS grade if resubmitted. No real wear is apparent, but any remaining mint luster is subdued by the molasses-brown patina. The 1851 C-1 possess a good deal of its original mint red color - probably two-thirds overall, but here again, a lack of mint luster almost certainly precludes a higher technical grade. Two coin lot.
