Lot Title:
Five Seated Liberty half-dollars.
Description:
A quintet of mostly handsome Seated Liberty half-dollars comprise this lot, with some problems of note. An 1843 leads off, and though it has been very subtly whizzed, it has reacquired quite a bit of toning that renders a deceptively original appearance at first glance. An exceedingly bold and semi-prooflike 1857-O grades XF-45, and retains an excess of surface residue embedded within most of the reverse details. Although the thickly layered original patina of the next coin, an 1858-O, tends to obscure luster a little, this coin grades AU-50. Next is an 1859-O that grades AU-53 and has original surfaces, and the lot concludes with an AU-50 1876-CC that has been very, very lightly wiped in the areas of the date and mint mark. Five coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
