1873 Three cent nickel, PR-64 "near cameo" 1873 Three cent nickel, PR-64 "near cameo"
Lot Title: 1873 Three cent nickel, PR-64 "near cameo"
Description: Much mint frost fills the devices and lends contrast that is very, very close to a full "cameo" designation, and in fact might prove worthy at a grading service. At hand's length, the flashy fields and good contrast yield the appearance of at least a "gem", but prudent examination of Liberty's cheek reveals a couple of thin slide marks and a couple of minor blemishes that serve to define the grade.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $340.00
High Estimate: $425.00

1873 Closed 3 (P01b, plate coin) PCGS PF-62.
1873 P01b RPD-002, Plate coin. A bit of noise on Liberty's cheek and an abraded patch beneath her chin are responsible for keeping the grade out of "choice" consideration. The reverse displays a...

1873 Closed 3 (P01a, plate coin) PCGS PF-65 (green label).
1873 P01a RPD002 Plate coin. Pewter-grey surfaces bear slight proof contrast, but the fields are not ideally reflective. An interesting planchet defect affects the obverse upper-left rim.
