Lot Title:
1799/8 (B-1) Draped Bust dollar, XF-40
Description:
This is a delightful Bust dollar. As the inaugural variety for the date, the presence of the "8" beneath the final "9" in the date is obvious, even without a glass in this instance. Although this is a fairly late die state, with well developed reverse die cracks and numerous die lumps, the overdate is strong and plain. Good originality slightly cloaks the obverse with good patina, but the reverse really looks close to "about uncirculated". A truly terrific early dollar for the collector, and not cleaned to death or messed with like so many competing coins, both certified and not. From the "Seven Pines" collection.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
