Lot Title:
Two Capped Bust Half Dollars.
Description:
A pair of Capped Bust Half Dollars, one that is a Lettered Edge type and the other is a Reeded Edge example. The 1832 is an O-103, R-1 specimen that is a cleaned AU-50. It is an untoned example with minimal surface flaws and an excellent strike. The 1838, cleaned AU-58, is also boldly struck, and it exhibits an interesting reverse die break circumscribing an arc from the "L" of HALF to the "A" of AMERICA. Three insignificant edge bruises are indicated for accuracy. It has retoned to a slate aspect covering a myriad number of intertwining hairlines and die polishing lines.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
