1861 'new reverse' Coronet quarter-eagle, PCGS MS-63 1861 'new reverse' Coronet quarter-eagle, PCGS MS-63
Lot Title: 1861 'new reverse' Coronet quarter-eagle, PCGS MS-63
Description: The "Type One" reverse that was phased out of production during the three years just prior to the Civil War featured short, thick arrows with arrowheads very close together. The "Type Two" reverse (called "New Reverse" by PCGS) is characterized by slender arrows with well separated arrowheads. The example offered here yields marvelously sharp detail under a loupe, and delightful green-gold color throughout both sides. In your cataloger's opinion, the PCGS grade seems noticeably conservative.
