Lot Title: Five piece U.S. gold type set in a Capital Plastics holder, all XF to AU.
Description: The Morel Collection. Pleasantly matched despite some discrepancy in individual grades, this is an attractive gold type set, housed very conveniently in a Capital Plastics holder. Grade ESTIMATES might be offered as follows: 1907 Saint (AU), 1910 Indian eagle (AU), 1909-D half-eagle (AU), 1927 quarter-eagle (XF), and 1857 dollar (AU/light wipe).

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1834 Plain 4 half eagle, and an 1836 quarter eagle, both VF/hairlines.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Very-fine details adequately and accurately describes the level of definition still apparent for each of these classic-head gold pieces. The 1836 quarter-eagle...
299The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,050.00
Four U.S. gold coins. Three quarter eagles and one half eagle.
An 1861 half-eagle (AU) with numerous tiny ticks commences this quartet. The remaining pieces are quarter-eagles that might be described as follows: 1856 (AU/ex-jewelry but repaired with remarkable...
300The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$775.00
1909 WA Gold Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo Hart's Coins of the West 1/4dwt...
Hart's Coins of the West were privately minted for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific-Exposition of 1909. They were minted in accordance with DWT standards, with the denominations offered here of 1-dwt,...
301The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,800.00
1904 $20 Liberty PCGS MS-63 (rattler), and a 1906 $2.50 Liberty PCGS...
MCA Set. A faint veneer of residue may rest upon Liberty's portrait, as if possibly puttied at some point. The 1904 exhibits very faint haziness on the obverse, but in this case, extended storage...
302The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$925.00
1893 $2.50 Liberty NGC MS-63, and a 1908 $2.50 Indian NGC MS-62.
MCA Set. Both coins display surfaces a bit brighter than average, with moonbeam-gold emanating from both. A delicate hint of semi-prooflike character beams from the surface of 1893, with deeply...
434The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$4,900.00
Twentieth century gold type set in a Capital Plastics holder.
From first to last, these face up amazingly well as UNC, or at least UNC-ish gold coins, although we suspect the correct grade range will prove to be AU-55 through MS-63. Being all common dates, only...
417The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,500.00
Three uncirculated U.S. gold coins.
These could be considered a partial type set given the three denominations included. We list an 1853 gold dollar at NGC MS-61 (fabulous strike, good luster but apparently dipped), a 1905...
418The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,100.00
Three $2.50 gold U.S. coins, all NGC AU details.
Wine And Dine Collection. Though not considered "problem-free" coins, these at least do represent distinct types, widely encompassing 83 years of quarter-eagle mintage. 1838 (AU/cleaned) looks...
419The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,003.00
Three Classic Head gold coins, cleaned.
New World Estate. An 1836 "script 8" quarter-eagle (VF) displays only very slight evidence of cleaning, and might very well achieve certification without problem. Two half-eagle are both dated 1836,...
420The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,100.00
1836 quarter-eagle, and an 1836 half-eagle.
New World Estate. The 1836 "script 8" quarter-eagle appears to grade XF-40, with dandelion-gold toning and obvious die-cracks on the obverse. We grade the 1836 half-eagle VF-35, and this coin...
421The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$725.00
1874 $3 gold piece, plus four impaired California fractionals.
New World Estate. The 1874 3-dollar has AU details and generally acceptable color, and even some carrot-gold accents, but noticeable hairlines suggest that it has been wiped a bit too aggressively. ...
422The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$950.00
Two Liberty and two Indian quarter-eagles.
New World Estate. An earlier 1853 quarter-eagle appears enticing for the AU grade, but the rest are common late date coins. They list as: 1907, 1927, and 1929. Philadelphia only in this four coin...
423The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,150.00
1914-D quarter-eagle and eagle, both AU.
The quarter-eagle should readily incline toward the upper range of AU, and displays an especially nice strike overall. The eagle makes a strong run at the mint-state level, though there may be just a...
424The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$7,000.00
Twelve-coin gold type set in a Capital Plastics holder.
A red Capital Plastics holder displays a typical dozen-coin type set, and most seem to be in the XF to AU range, though perhaps a couple show signs of old cleaning. We list only the dates and...
425The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,500.00
1904-S Liberty double eagle, and a 1925 Saint-Gaudens double eagle.
MS-63 seems to be an appropriate grade for 1904-S although it looks a full point better overall. A couple of oblong marks in the nose and chin area must be considered. 1925 shows wonderful sharpness...
426The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$3,900.00
Nine half-eagles.
These range from XF to AU, and since none are keys to the series, we list merely dates without grade estimates. There are four Coronet pieces, and five Indian pieces that combine to list as follows: ...
427The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,101.00
1904 double-eagle, 1906 eagle, and a 1907 half-eagle, all AU.
One might not be surprised if at least the double-eagle were to contend for a mint-state grade, but we shall very conservatively call these all AU. Three coin lot.
428The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$925.00
1907 half-eagle and quarter-eagle, both NGC MS-63.
As should be the case, given that both are assigned the MS-63 grade, this 1907 quarter-eagle and half-eagle tandem matches up extremely well, as each boasts wholesome original surfaces and patina. ...
619The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$380.00
1853 gold dollar, and a 1906 quarter eagle, as described.
Liberty Mast Estate. Evidently purchased in the mid-1980s, this pair of gold coins are of humble grade and origin. An 1853 gold dollar has sharp AU details, but an unusual slightly grainy surface as...
620The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$2,100.00
Three U.S. gold type coins.
Barbara U'Dell Gold Collection. Put away since about 1990, none of these has ever seen the inside of a slab. We list our grade opinions as: 1904 quarter-eagle (MS-60), 1912 eagle (AU-55), and 1896...
621The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$4,100.00
Eight U.S. gold type coins.
A trio of Indian quarter-eagles represent the only duplication, each in the AU range with dates of 1914-D, 1927, and 1928. An 1856 type-2 gold dollar might be UNC overall, though the reverse shows a...
622The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$4,100.00
Three U.S. gold coins graded MS-63 by PCGS.
The MS-63 grade is where gold coins usually show a sudden, noticeable upgrade in visual appeal over plain-Jane "unc", and certainly all of these could not be much improved for this level. The 1909-D...
623The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,100.00
1910-S Saint-Gaudens ANACS photo-certified MS-60.
Registered to John Paul Sarosi, who is still in business today. This is probably MS-61 today, but ANACS didn't attempt such surgically accurate grades back during the good old days.
624The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$825.00
1904 and 1926 quarter eagle, both NGC MS-62.
Samuel Robertson Gold Consignment. No marks appear on either side of the 1904, but it does display about a handful of minor copper spots and light hairlines accounting for the grade. 1926 features...
625The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,400.00
1924 Saint-Gaudens ANACS photo-certified MS-63.
Incredibly well struck and purely original, this looks like an undergraded coin. Fun to see with such an old certificate!
402The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,950.00
Six ANACS certified U.S. gold coins.
In the old days, these were AU/BU gold coins, but ANACS has assigned more modern grades to them. A quartet of quarter-eagles are listed as: 1915 (MS-60/cleaned), 1910 (AU-55), 1912 (AU-58, with some...
403The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$675.00
1907 quarter eagle and 1890-CC half-eagle, as described.
NGC encapsulated the 1890-CC half-eagle as "XF/obverse graffiti", which adequately denotes some crisscrossing scratches in the obverse lower left field. If not for that, this would would be a great,...
404The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$2,200.00
Pair of PCGS certified U.S. gold coins.
PCGS has graded a 1928 Saint as MS-63+, this coin showing nice, clean fields and some abrasions on the torso. Very slight doubling in the date area suggests a minor DDO. A 1907 half-eagle received a...
405The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$6,250.00
Eight coin U.S. gold type set.
Much original luster emanates from this impressive gold type-set, all the coins contained within a Capital Plastics "20th Century Gold type-set" holder. This group is a little nicer than those often...
406The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$3,000.00
Four coin U.S. gold type set, AU.
The set is comprised of a 1915-S Saint, 1914-D Indian eagle, 1915 half-eagle, and 1914 quarter-eagle. These should fall into the AU grade range, with no obvious shortcomings. Four coin lot.
407The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$3,200.00
Four coin U.S. gold type set, AU.
1911-D/D features a strong OMM on the Saint. Booming luster from each member of this quartet assures good value for the high bidder, even though each coin displays scant evidence of very brief wear. ...
408The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$8,000.00
Complete gold type set in a Capital Plastics holder.
With the advent of certification, carefully assembled sets of gold coins this nice seldom show up in the marketplace anymore. As with all coins offered in a Scotsman auction, every single one given...
409The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$2,000.00
Four U.S. gold coins in ANACS AU holders.
Near-miss AU gold makes up this quartet of coins certified in yellow ANACS holders, starting with a 1915 quarter-eagle (AU-58). Next is a pair of AU-58 half-eagles dated 1907 and 1912, and the lot...
410The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$8,500.00
Gold U.S. type set in a Capital Plastics holder.
The advent of certified coins has spelled doom for many sets in albums and in other types of holders, but that did not hold back the consignor of this terrific gold type set. Eleven coins in total...
411The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$850.00
Three U.S. gold coins.
Circulated U.S. gold from a consignor's sock drawer(!) includes an 1862 gold dollar (XF), 1909 quarter-eagle in XF, and a 1909-D half-eagle in AU. None of these coins exhibits any unpleasant odor in...

Five Coronet gold coins, AU/UNC.
Directly from a consignor's Dansco 7070 type-set is this quintet of coronet gold coins, each with a considerable amount of luster. They are listed as follows: 1904 double-eagle (UNC), 1889-S eagle...
413The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$675.00
1909 $2.50 Indian, and an 1886 $5 Liberty, both AU.
The 1909 quarter-eagle looks like a slider and offers plenty of luster, while the 1886 half-eagle retains much luster and has fewer contact marks than usual. Two coin lot.
414The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$575.00

257The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$2,900.00
Four $2.50 Indians, a $5 Liberty, a $5 Indian, and a $10 Indian.
Although the Indian eagle is borderline UNC, it has light hairlines that remove it from mint-state consideration, and all the accompanying coins are also touched with light wear. Thus there is no...
