Lot Title:
1855-D VF-20
Description:
A very scarce issue from the Dahlonega, Georgia Branch Mint with the numeral 5s at a slant. Unfortunately, someone scratched an "X" in the obverse field across from Liberty's neck. Although it may have experienced a light cleaning, mainly on the obverse, its design elements are prominent for this grade, and the surfaces have a rather mellow yellow-gold aspect.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

A pair of embedded, jagged streaks across the obverse attest to the difficulties Dahlonega had with production of quality planchets, and the color has that distinctive canary-gold hue characteristic... |
