Lot Title:
1845 Uncirculated details/graffiti/cleaned.
Description:
Mintage: 26,153. Removed from an NGC holder which stated "graffiti", though the graffiti has technically been removed from the obverse. A couple of "X" marks remain on the reverse, but the obverse fields now show ungainly smoothed texture. At the "unc" (MS-60) level, 1845 is a very rare coin, since all the grading services combined have only ever graded maybe three coins at MS-61 or higher. This fact only emphasizes the unfortunate nature of what has befallen this very sharp piece. (PCGS# 008592)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
